This Privacy Policy describes how SkipNow.ie ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores and protects your personal data when you use our website (skipnow.ie), call us, message us, or book a skip through our service.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data in compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Irish Data Protection Act 2018, and the ePrivacy Regulations (S.I. No. 336 of 2011).
Sections in this policy
1. Data controller
SkipNow.ie is the data controller for any personal data you provide to us. Our contact details are at the end of this policy.
2. Data we collect
The data we collect depends on how you interact with us:
| When you... | We collect... | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Enter your Eircode for a quote | Eircode, browser type, approximate location (derived from Eircode), timestamp | To return an accurate, location-specific quote |
| Book a skip | Full name, delivery address, phone number, email address, payment details (processed by Stripe — we don't store card numbers), booking specifics | To fulfil your booking and contract |
| Contact us by form | Name, email, phone, message content, time of submission | To respond to your enquiry |
| Call us | Phone number, call time, content of conversation (notes only — calls are not recorded by default) | To handle your call and follow up |
| Visit our website | IP address, browser type, pages visited, time on page, referring URL (anonymised via GA4) | To improve our site (with consent) |
| Subscribe to updates | Email address, consent timestamp | To send you the updates you've asked for |
3. Why we collect it — legal basis
Under GDPR Article 6, we rely on the following legal bases for processing your data:
- Contract performance (Article 6(1)(b)) — to deliver the skip hire service you've booked.
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) — to communicate with you about your booking, respond to enquiries, prevent fraud, and improve our service.
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) — for analytics cookies, marketing communications, and any non-essential tracking. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)) — to comply with tax, accounting, waste-disposal record-keeping, and other regulatory requirements.
4. Who we share data with
We only share your data with parties necessary to deliver the service or to comply with the law:
- Licensed skip operators — the local operator delivering your skip receives your name, address, phone number and booking details. Operators are independently EPA-licensed waste contractors bound by their own GDPR obligations.
- Local councils — note: we do not share your data with local councils. Skip permits are applied for by the customer directly with the relevant council, so any personal data submitted to the council is part of your own application to them — not a transfer from us.
- Payment processors — Stripe processes card payments. We do not store card numbers; Stripe handles this under PCI-DSS compliance.
- Service providers — Wix (website hosting), Google (Analytics & Ads, with consent), email providers, accounting software. All providers are bound by Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) compliant with GDPR Article 28.
- Regulators / law enforcement — only when legally compelled.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties under any circumstances.
5. How long we keep data
- Booking and customer records: 7 years (Irish Revenue / tax requirement)
- Marketing email subscribers: until you unsubscribe
- Contact form submissions: 2 years from last interaction
- Website analytics (GA4): 14 months
- Quote/Eircode lookups (not converted to booking): 90 days
- Cookie consent records: 12 months
6. How we protect data
We use a combination of technical and organisational measures to protect your data:
- HTTPS / TLS encryption for all data transmission
- Encrypted at-rest storage (Wix & Google Cloud)
- Access controls — only authorised personnel can access customer records
- Regular security reviews
- Strong password and two-factor authentication on admin accounts
- Data minimisation — we only collect what we genuinely need
In the unlikely event of a data breach that may put your rights and freedoms at risk, we will notify the Data Protection Commission within 72 hours, and notify you directly without undue delay, in line with GDPR Articles 33 and 34.
7. Your rights under GDPR
